Service in the Community

Our purpose statement says that we are energized by the Holy Spirit and called to serve others. As a community of faith, we seek to live out our purpose by being active in the community in which we live providing a helping hand where needed.

We encourage you to find what you are excited about and see where it is that you can participate.


The demand for help with basic needs such as food is increasing.  Along with an active food pantry for emergency food needs located in the sanctuary of First Lutheran, we also collect money and non perishable items that are brought over to Bread of Life in Malden. First Lutheran also prepares and serves a healthy and hearty meal every 4th Friday of the month for clients of Bread of Life.

Housing Families is an organization that helps families in need with housing struggles. Members of First Lutheran participate in the work of Housing Families by collecting items for families, gathering school supplies for students and volunteering as tutors for the after school program.

Habitat for Humanity of greater Lowell, MA is working with Lutherans in New England to build affordable homes in Massachusetts. Some of our members volunteer on work sites and housing projects throughout the area.

Tri-CAP Action Program, also called Tri – City Action Program, is an organization that services Malden and the surrounding cities. It seeks to offer ernergy assistance, children and family services, etc. Members of First Lutheran serve by collecting Christmas presents for children and families during the holidays and in other ways as opportunities arise.

Refugee Immigration Ministries is a service organization for Refugees and Asylum Seekers. Members of First Lutheran Church are active with this interfaith ministry by serving on the board of directors, working in the office, donating home goods and furnishings to clients, and in many, many other ways.
